Facebook Meta’s Abuse of Power: What You Need to Know

Facebook has progressed from a simple social network to an essential part of modern life. It’s not only a place to post vacation photos. It has become a key hub for staying in touch with loved ones. It also keeps us up to date on what is going on in the world around us. This holds everything from global issues to the most recent scientific discoveries. However, a recent personal event has made me realize how frighteningly powerful it is.

In January, my Facebook account, which I had maintained since 2008, was abruptly deactivated without warning or explanation. I lost access to my personal data. I also lost a page I managed to help homeless animals. Years of work and connections were gone in an instant.

My attempts to discover answers or challenge the decision faced silence. The algorithm terminated my questions without any human interaction or oversight. I couldn’t even access my data, which is quite a bit!

Due to censorship, I didn’t use it much for my work on COVID. It was a way for me to stay in touch with my loved ones. It also a way to help homeless animals.

However, the situation is more complex and worrisome. After my first account was deactivated, I created a new one, only to have it deactivated within a few hours. The message I received stated that I had violated community standards. This is highly improbable. I had just created the account and had not posted anything.

This pattern suggests that the AI used by Facebook (now Meta) is trained to target specific individuals. If this doesn’t alarm you, it should. The implications of such targeting are far-reaching and affect many more people than just me.

Moreover, I noticed an extra issue. After creating the new account, my browser settings were altered. I couldn’t access my emails or Substack, even with the correct password. I had to remove the browser and clean up my laptop to regain normal functionality. This incident raises serious concerns about the extent to which Meta can and does interfere with users’ devices.

If you think this doesn’t matter and it won’t affect you, think again. Mark Zuckerberg’s Meta empire claims that our data is protected. The truth is that Meta, and undoubtedly other corporations, have unrestricted access to our digital activities.

And that’s not all. Meta reportedly provides the Chinese government with user data. Yes, China has access to my data, but I do not.

Sen. Josh Hawley (R-Mo.) called on Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg to testify before Congress after a former Facebook employee alleged the company repeatedly undermined U.S. national security.

Meta’s transgressions go beyond privacy invasion. Reports show they have pirated millions of books to train their AI. This is an illegal and unethical practice. It further highlights the company’s disregard for the rights and well-being of its users.

Former Sinn Féin president Gerry Adams is among a number of authors whose books may have been accessed by technology company Meta to train their latest AI model.

Mr Adams said the books had “been used without his permission”, and the matter is now with his solicitor.

An investigation by The Atlantic magazine revealed Meta may have accessed millions of pirated books and research papers through LibGen – Library Genesis – to train its generative AI (Gen-AI) system, Llama. More in this article▶️ https://www.bbc.com/news/articles/cn911vqng9zo

Meta is not just a social media platform; it has become a powerful and often unaccountable entity.

➡️ They pirate copyrighted material.

➡️ They track our every step.

➡️ They sell our personal information. They have the authority to shut us out without explanation.

That is why I am asking everyone to share this post on every platform and channel they have. We may feel insignificant, yet we have the ability to expose the truth and demand action. The power of the people is phenomenal, and as more people become aware of these crimes, Meta’s owners will be held accountable.

Meta is engaging in a criminal abuse of power, and we must not tolerate it. So it’s time to hold them accountable for their actions.

One last thought: if Zuckerberg can do it, why wouldn’t other major social media platforms be able to? At the end of the day, it’s all about money. Take Twitter—now rebranded as X—as an example. They recovered my old account, but I’m practically invisible there.”

Please read my note ✍️.

In a world where the voices of truth often go unheard, the work of anti-narrative activists like myself becomes even more critical. I am dedicated to uncovering and exposing the hidden dangers that many overlook, often at great personal risk. Unlike many who benefit from the support of sponsors or the spotlight of media attention, I forge ahead with limited resources and a deep sense of responsibility. My commitment to this cause means that I not only put my own well-being on the line but also face the daily challenge of supporting my family without a stable financial foundation.

Every day, I wake up knowing that the work I do is vital, yet it feels like an uphill battle. The early warnings and sacrifices made by those who dared to speak out are too often ignored or dismissed.

This is not just a personal struggle; it is a fight for transparency, accountability, and the safety of our communities. By supporting my work, you are not only helping me to continue this crucial mission but also ensuring that the voices of those who are often silenced are heard.
